Boole and the Boulders

Context

This game was made for the 28th edition of the Legacy Mob Game Jam that lasted five days. The theme "Arcade" was chosen by the community, following a vote between four different themes.

The Game

"This is the end of the world. Boulders are falling from the sky and Boole the frog wants to live. Move Boole with the arrow keys. Avoid the falling boulders."

Boulders fall at a steady pace that regularly increases until reaching a maximum of boulder spawns per second. Along with the amount of boulders, there's also an increase of the falling speed. The boulders all have a chance to fall onto the player, which decreases as time progresses and as the number of boulders increases.

You pick up bonuses that will spawn a new character randomly on the screen. All characters are controlled by the same buttons, moving up will try to move every single character upwards. The death of one of these characters leaves a grave. The grave becomes a temporary obstacle that disappears after a few seconds. The chances of a bonus along with the permanence of a tomb decrease with time.

The highscore is locally stored, so don't hesitate to send me an e-mail if you beat my score of 962!

My role

I have focused on three aspects : Game design, Art, and Sound. Every single asset of this game was created by me thanks to Aseprite and Audacity. For the game design we have used spreadsheets to have a better view over time of all the elements that need balance (Number of boulders, fall speed, etc.)
